Right out of the gate let me say this: I bought this book as a sort of joke. Come on, the title and subject are kinda funny. I'm sure the author won't take offense at this. After all, I bought the book and she gets a royalty. Win-win. In my family, when Dad here has to cook a meal, if I can't get a family buy-in on what to make my response is always: "OK, everyone gets a sardine and a saltine." That usually sparks a quick buy-in on something.I grew up eating sardines. Almost always as a sandwich, on crackers, but occasionally straight out of the can, as is. (OK, sort of. I always take the bones out.) My Dad was the editor and writer for an outdoors sports (Hunting, fishing, whatever...) magazine and he always kept a couple of cans in his vehicle in case he got caught out in the boonies and needed something to eat. When he "rotated his stock" I'd join him and learned to tolerate them, if not love them. I ate them as a teen while backpacking. Triscuits were always my choice on this menu itemFast forward a few years when I was a college student - before the days of Ramen, Pell grants and student loans. I was relatively poor, attending a college in a rural area with somewhat limited grocery options and I needed cheap food. I ate sardine sandwiches a couple of times a week and was mighty glad to have them. (Just keep breath mints handy.) I can't honestly say I ever craved them, but I liked them enough to keep eating them.The author makes a pretty good case on why you should at least try them. Alas, I'm afraid she won't convince anyone who need convincing about that. Sardines are the Brussels sprouts of the protein world. You tolerate 'em or you hate 'em. The difference is how open your mind and how they're presented. I'd say give 'em a try. Either as a sandwich, or with recipes in the book. (Or if you're really adventurous straight out of the can.) She might just change your mind.Funny fact: Mom would never let Dad and I eat them in the house because of the smell. To this day (I'm 60), I never have.
I've always read how fantastically healthy sardines are. This book has convinced me at last to give them an honest effort with an open mind. Also given are ways to eat them that make it easier to take the plunge.

This is a short book that make the case for adding sardines to one's diet. It does lack detail and background which was a disappointment.
The book is short and to the point. If it gets you to try sardines then its worth every penny because your on your way to a healthy lifestyle.
Save your money, unless you think spending a few dollars for a pamphlet of recipes that explain how to eat Sardines from a can (with a fork or a napkin) or serving them on crackers is worthwhile. One of the more complex recipes suggests putting them in a vinaigrette. Frankly, I think most consumers have a handle on how to do those things. None of the few paragraphs of "copy" is anything beyond common knowledge. It is never fun to feel "ripped off", to save yourself feeling the same; AVOID this item!
