Primarily, this book will appeal to coin collectors, although you don't need to collect coins to wonder whether the change in your pocket might include a rare, and perhaps valuable, error penny, nickel, or dime. Written in a clear and engaging style, "Strike It Rich With Pocket Change" is appropriate for readers from 8 - 80. The text is laid out in a concise and logical sequence so that specific information is easy to find. Information is included for coin issues only up to 2009, and an updated edition is needed. Most people who order this book will know that they are unlikely to "Strike it Rich with Pocket Change." The reason some of these coins are valuable is because many are exceedingly rare (1969-S, doubled die Lincoln Cent, only one known). There are, however, ample examples of errors that can be commonly found in change (value $2 - $5). If the "hunt" is part of the enjoyment, this book, used as a "trusty guide", can provide hours of entertainment. It is not a book to be read, and then discarded, but, rather a reference that can be consulted time, and time again. For me, the book underscored how there are many coins with extremely small errors floating around in every day pocket change. For instance, looking at the reverse of the Lincoln Memorial cent under magnification you might notice that the detail of the Memorial has been doubled, or even tripled, creating additional upright supports for the building. This falls into the category of minutia for me, and is too small, and too minute, even under magnification, that searching for it feels a lot like "work." After reading about the 1974-D, doubled die Kennedy Half, I noticed an example for sale and purchased it for $20, in an unopened Mint Set. With that purchase, the book paid for itself. There is a ton of information included in this book and it could be very helpful, even valuable to readers from more than just the numismatic community. If the thrill of the hunt is what you crave, and the potential for real (but unlikely) reward for your efforts, then this is the book for you.
On the title... FYI, coin hunting is hard work and getting rich off of it would be like hitting the lottery. Possible, yes, highly unlikely though. But, this is a great hobby, one which the whole family can enjoy together. It takes hard work with long eye straining hours to find a nice several-dollar worth coin. That being said this book has a wealth of great information including tons of great black-and-white close-up photos and details on how to tell the difference from one coin which is a low-value 'error' coin and one which is TRULY collectable! I have found several very nice finds directly because of this book. I highly recommend this to everyone interested in coin collecting whether you are a long-time collector or someone just starting out. If you are new, get two good magnifying eye loops, a 10x and 14x, this will really help in your coin-error hunting. I am extremely happy I made this purchase!
When looking for an error (that has value) you must be able to determine what kind of error it is in the first place. I just started accumulating what was being sold at auction on E bay that claimed were errors or varieties. Take doubling, as in "Doubled Dies" not Double Dies which indicates a lack of understanding. Until I read the sample of this book, I purchased Two coins that were what is known as "Mechanical Doubling" not collectible, unless just to compare. Had they been of high value, I'd be stuck with coins that were not what they appeared to be and worthless. Fortunately they were not the popular types with high prices. This book shows you with photos where to look, what to look for, the value at the time of printing which helps to understand how coins values increase and decrease according to the market and supply and demand. Overall this is a book that before you start buying coins that bare the attribution of error or variety you should own. I am a man who doesn't always read instructions being in my late forties and having put many things together successfully. That being the case, this book put me back to looking before leaping mode. And has paid for itself and more.Roger

Okay, can I say I just love this book. Strike it Rich with Pocket Change is chocked full of information on how to spot pocket change that may or may not be worth lots of money. I know I will look at my change with different eyes. I'm the crazy person who picks up pennies on the ground and now I will make sure I do it more often. You never know when you may pick up a treasure. The illustrations in this book are superb and are very detailed so you know just what to look for.This book tells you about different coinage including pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollars. It shows you what "flaws" to look for from the mint and tells you which ones are more collectable vs ones that aren't collectable at all. I read through this book in less than 2 hours and then started looking at my coins. I've not struck it rich yet but it sure is fun to hope.I would advise anyone who wants to collects pocket change to give this book a try. I received this book in e-book form to review but wish I had gotten it in physical book form.
